Today, I received the death certificate of Hattie Harris-Streeter my paternal great-grand aunt. Only the next of kin can obtain a death certificate which gives the cause of death from Florida Vital Records. This death certificate omits this information. Also, it contains a few minor errors.
Date of Birth: December 25, 1886 (the exact month and day was unknown until now). Birthplace: Macon County, GA (should be Macon County, AL) Date of Death: August 9, 1966 (the exact month and day was unkown until now). Place of Death: West Palm Beach, FL - inside the city limit Palm Beach County Hospital Occupation: Harvester on farm Father's Name: Balmer Harris (should be Bamma or Alabama Harris) Mother's Name: Della ? - [maiden name was Wilson] Age at death: 79 Informant's Name - Felix Streeter [son] Informant's Address - PO Box 3, Pelican Lake, FL Body was removed on August 11, 1966 and sent to Chehaw, Ala. The name of the funeral home is illegible but the location is in Belle Glade, Fla. Wednesday, January 12

Today, I added
photographs of folks who appeared in my Aunt Jessie's
photo album. For the past few years, I have been scanning and
attempting to include these as a separate webpage. However, this
blog layout has allowed me to add these easily and
effortlessly. I have very little or no knowledge of the folks
pictured here. If any of these surames or photographs look
familiar to you or if you wish to add any of your related photographs
to
the collection, please contact me at dhargrove7@aol.com. View photos by clicking on the
folder labeled "Tuskegee Folks" located to the left of this posting.

After a long day
of work, I'm most anxious to get home to browse the internet and to
open the mail--especially after sending for any information that would
enlighten the ongoing genealogy research! Well, today was no
exception, there was something in the mail. In a previous post, it was
noted that the trek was for finding more about Rebecca Thomas--married
name could have been Fitzpatrick. I bypassed the bills (will
tackle them later) to see an extraordinary find--a reponse from the
Social Security Administration. I sat down with my thoughts and
began to open the letter and realized the first name matched.
However, it was downhill from there. When trying to trace an
ancestor through the Social Security Administration, most folks use
Ancestry.com as a "lead" in the right direction. Sometimes this
can be tricky (like what happened to me)! Firstly, the cost of
these applications, up until July 1, 2001, maybe 2002, was only
$7.00. Before the June 30th deadline, I did a mad dash to obtain about
7 at a total cost of $49. On July 1st, the cost increased by 400%
to $27 per request!! Now, what if the application you receive is not what you
wanted! SSA says it's your problem! Well, this is exactly
what happened with this newly arrived SS data. The application
SS# matched the name for Rebecca Fitzpatrick found in the Ancestry
database. But, this was not the name on the SS Application!
This application is for a Rebecca Williams Gates whose parents were
Bryant Williams and Clara Sanders of Chelsea, Macon County,
Alabama. This is just a few of the disappoints of genealogy
research. Well, all is not lost -- I still have Hattie Harris'
possible death certificate to wait on.

During the month of December 2004 the following research activities were conducted:
1) Contacted the Florida Vital Records for the death record of Hattie Harris-Streeter. Based on information furnished by her daughter, Daisy Brown, Hattie died in 1966. 2) Sent a request to the Social Security Administration for a copy of the registration for a Rebecca Fitzpatrick--possibly the sister of Hannah Thomas. Rebecca died during the 1970's. I do remember my mom, grandmother and Uncle Buster driving to Montgomery, Alabama to attend her funeral. Research findings will be posted upon receipt of response. A few days ago, while browsing switchboard.com
, I decided to search for Tarver descendants in Chicago, IL. I
remembered the name Mattie Tarver and began to view the various names
that were listed. I called the first Mattie Tarver I came across
and lo and behold it was a connection! Mattie Tarver is the
daughter of Isie Webb who had two other siblings William Webb, Jr and Mattie Webb

This is my very first blog! The
primary purpose of this blog is to complement my genealogy website and
to keep family members abreast of all the happenings as we gear up for
Reunion 2005! For over the past 10 years I have been diligently
researching family history though oral histories, bible records, census
records, birth and death records, slave data and other resources.
